before announcing the ratings for Madden NFL 18, we got some predictions from a few of the gridiron elite on where they think their ratings should land. We’ve also posted their player cards from last year, for reference.
Mike Daniels, Green Bay Packers, DE
“I definitely shouldn't be anything below a 90. What I bring for my team is unbelievable and then I make the plays on top of it.”
“I'm a power type player. Anything related to power should be like 95 plus. You ask any offensive lineman, ‘How strong is Mike Daniels?’ They'll tell you, ‘Yo, he's probably the strongest I ever played against.’ My strength should be like one of the highest in the game. I don't want to sound cocky or nothing, but I want 99 strength.”
Josh Norman, Washington Redskins, CB
“If I ain't 99, there ain't nothing to talk about. If Tom Brady is like 99, why can't I be? Shoot. Why am I down to 90?”
“He's a quarterback. I'm a DB. I think I'm the best at my position and my game. He's the best at what he is. It's the G.O.A.T. edition. I won't be surprised if he gets 100. It is the G.O.A.T. edition. He should. He on the cover. If he do get 100, I'll settle for 99. Well, I can't really settle for 99 because I don't think anybody better than me.”
“I just feel if you're going to rate somebody, please put DBs on the same level that everyone else is rated. If you're going rate a lineman or linebacker at a 98 or 97, why is it none of the top cornerbacks are that way? I had the highest rating last year and I was a 94. I couldn't get a 95!?”
Jay Ajayi, Miami Dolphins, RB
“How am I the J-Train and I'm 77 strength? That don't make any sense. There's a clip of me running through two dudes at once. They just don't want my rating to be high.”
“I really need you guys to get my hair right this Madden. Last you had me out there with no dreads coming out of my helmet and that hurt my feelings. So I need my model to look a little bit more like me this year.”
Malcolm Butler, New England Patriots, CB
“I think my rating is pretty good, man. I've seen it go up as the season went on. The year after the Super Bowl and the last year too. I think Madden's fair.”
“I think my tackling should be a little higher. You know, I accept anything you all put on there but like, I be missing Dion Lewis. He can shake it, but if I grab him I think I can take him down. You all got him Jerome Bettis-ing me on the sideline man.”
Todd Gurley, Los Angeles Rams, RB
“I started out of college with an 80, so if they give me anything less than that, somebody at EA SPORTS is going to have to fight me.”
Michael Thomas, Miami Dolphins, FS
“I always play better than my ratings show. They're not showing love. I'm year six. I was an undrafted free agent man. They need to do a little bit more love.”
“There's no way I can run down on kickoff, and make all the tackles I make, play in the slot, play nickel, play safety and be at 87 speed. So, I ask Madden, if you're going to do anything, show a little respect for my speed. But other than that, I say I appreciate them because no matter what my rating is, everybody that I've ever talked to says, ’Dude, I'll put you in the game and you just make plays.’ I've seen it. It's like a cheat code.”
